"Did you know you're a designer no matter your field?" That's the first question that is asked in the Equity Centered Design Field Guide by Creative Reaction Labs. It talks about designs more broadly as "plans or decisions" and that they can impact others based on their inclusivity and equitability.
The importance of Equity Centered design is that of pushing Human Centered Design even further. They explain that sometimes Human Centered doesn't work very well to solve complex issues within communities and that you need to have a different approach that acknowledges the roles of "people, systems, and power."
Something I learned when Antionette Carroll, Founder and CEO of Creative Reaction Lab, came to talk at the University is how different equality and equity are. Now in conjunction with Human Centered and taking a class that delves deeper into it, I feel that if you're doing human centered work, you should also be doing equity centered work at the same time.
